Assisted Living Waiver (ALW): Beyond the Basics is an in‑depth training designed for Assisted Living professionals seeking a comprehensive understanding of the Ohio Medicaid Assisted Living Waiver program. Participants will explore the full scope of the ALW—from what the waiver is and how it supports individuals who need assisted living services, to the complete process of becoming a certified ALW provider.

The course walks through resident eligibility requirements, assessments, and enrollment steps, while clarifying how Medicaid pays for waiver services and how room and board are addressed separately. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of client liability calculations, ALW program rules, and documentation expectations. In addition, the training covers the federal Home & Community-Based Settings (HCBS) compliance requirements that shape resident rights and community integration standards.

Finally, the course explains how the ALW operates within Ohio’s Next Generation MyCare Ohio managed care structure, including care coordination, billing considerations, and transitions for enrollees.
